Top 10 Books of 2013

Hey guys!

Today I have my top 10 books that I read in 2013!

This year has been an amazing reading year, and I've read so many good books!!

These aren't in any particular order (possibly order I read these top 10) so here we go!

1. My Life Next Door- Huntley Fitzpatrick

This was such a beautiful story, and has become one of my favourite books. I also found out that there will be a sequel!! So exciting! But the book itself was a lovely love story and some of the characters are just amazing and awesome!

2. The Enemy- Charlie Higson

One of my all time favourite series (the series is not finished yet and I haven't read the newest book yet!). Oh goodness gracious I love this series! This is the first book and just represents the entire series in a way, it's got zombies in it and crazy kids and it's just brilliant. I recommend it highly!

3. Boys Don't Cry- Malorie Blackman

Malorie Blackman is known for writing beautiful and brilliant books based on difficult stories. This is about a boy who is going to get some exam results and gets this baby left with him and it's his baby apparently! His whole life is turned upside down and this is how he deals with everything. Its so good and I think Malorie Blackman will very quickly become a favourite author of mine!

4. Pride and Prejudice- Jane Austen

Bet you guys weren't expecting a classic! This is such a good book, and I just want to read so many other Jane Austen books (lots are free for Kindle) and just makes me appreciate all the classics we have in the world. It's a beautiful story, if you haven't read it, please do, you won't regret it.

5. Amy and Roger's Epic Detour- Morgan Matson

I had no idea what I was going to think of this and ended up loving it! It was a lovely summer read with a beautiful story. Amy and Roger were really awkward at first but you end up loving them! This road trip book is perfect for summer, so if you choose to read it, do it during the summer.

6. Uglies- Scott Westerfeld

Once again, I've picked the first book in a series and it sort of represents the entire series. This is such a good series. The whole world and technology sounds so cool yet so scary! Tally is a confused character, I guess there are some moments where you love her, some you hate her. I sort of felt like that throughout the series! It's a good series though!

7. Anna Dressed in Blood- Kendare Blake

The first and only horror book I read in October! It was brilliant! It was hyped up so much all over the internet that I was worried that it was overhyped and that I wouldn't enjoy it, but it was brilliant! There were some moments where it was quite slow, but I guess that didn't really ruin it for me. I liked it!

8. The Book Thief- Markus Zusak

This has become one of my all time favourite books. I like reading about the time of WW2 and the Holocaust because that's always interested me, even as a child, so when I hear about fiction to do with that period of time, I will read it, and it's also in Nazi Germany, which adds to how interesting I found it. It's narrated by Death, which I found quite cool and original, and he's quite witty too. It's just a good book, read it!!

9. Geek Girl- Holly Smale

This book was published this year, and I kept seeing it around and amazon recommended it to me, so I went onto goodreads and had a look at it and I thought it was interesting. So I bought it, read it and loved it. This is the first book in a series (Holly Smale recently announced on twitter that it'll be a 5 book series instead of a trilogy) and the only book in the series I have read (only the first 2 books are out at the moment) and I loved it! The character, Harriet is so cool, she's a geek and the things she comes out with are brilliant. I recommend this highly!

10. Anatomy of a Boyfriend- Daria Snadowsky

This is a book certainly not for young children! This is quite a sexual book. I'm kinda ignoring that bit when putting it on this list. I did enjoy it, even though it was sexual. I guess the whole plot ans the awkwardness of the characters was quite good. The fact that these two people who are new to the whole sex thing are together and so awkward with it all is quite funny. I don't really know what to say really. It's good and I'll probably read the sequel at some point. I also just remembered I should probably do a review on this at some point (don't hold your breath. If you want a review, let me know. I guess I feel awkward revewing it, but I'm not sure if I will or not) .

So, if you read up until the end. THANK YOU!

I hope everyone had a good 2013 and have a lovely 2014.

I may do more in the future actually because I'm honestly struggling with posts. I'm trying to find interesting things and failing miserably! I may even do a kind of 'what's on my iPhone sort of thing', who knows!

Beauty Review- Barry M Gelly Nail Paint

Alright, another beauty review to kick off these scheduled posts!

The reason I'm not writing this one on the day is because the day of release (23rd of December) is because it's my boyfriends birthday and I'm spending the day with him!

Let's get on with this review.

Barry M Gelly Nail Paints are brilliant, seriously. They really shine, don't chip easily from my experience, are easy to put on and are available in some seriously beautiful colours. I adore them. Now, because I'm not really a beauty reviewing expert, I'm just going to tell you about how brilliant they are and my overall rating.

The colours are so nice, they really stand out and are available in a variety of colours. I have quite a few so below are my colours.

Image taken with an iphone 5, no filter, flash was on.

In order the colours are: Blood Orange, Plum, Guava, Dragon, Prickly Pear, Blackberry, Lychee

As you can see, there are some seriously nice colours for all seasons, all skin tones, all occasions. They just have a colour for everything. My personal favourites are Blood Orange and Prickly Pear. I just have no clue what to say really, they are just so nice!

When you've put it on, and it's fully dry, they feel so smooth, even without a top coat (but I would recommend still putting a top coat on). The brush is very good with application, though I still manage to mess up, I have very shaky hands and my left hand is just a mess, but not as bad as it would be if the brush was different. (I'm left handed and definitely not ambidextrous so when I do something with my write hand, it looks like a small child did it in a rush.)

Price wise, these are quite cheap. I think they are about £2-£4 each and are available in a variety of different places, I get mine from Boots and SuperDrug, which are UK/Ireland only stores (I think). I think you can still use these with the Special Effects nail polishes by Barry M too. They should be...

These polishes also don't seem to smell much. Some nail polishes really stink up the room when in use, but these don't seem to. My cat is very sensitive to smells, and these didn't seem to bother her at all when she was right next to me while I was painting my nails. It's great!

My rating is 5/5 stars and I would recommend these to anyone who loves to paint their nails but doesn't want to spend too much money on getting good polishes, these are great value for money.

I apologise if this wasn't very helpful but I'm terrible with these reviews but hope to get better at them.

Almost Christmas

Once again I apologise for the lack of posts. School was awful! I had so many 'end of term' exams and homework and family issues. (Yep, I'm sorry). But I am off for the holidays now.

I am honestly not sure how many posts I'll do during this holiday. I just want to spend time with my family and friends, but I don't want to neglect the blog. So I'm thinking of making a bunch of posts and just putting them up for whenever. This will most likely include a variety of things (books, makeup stuff, maybe a bit of phone related stuff. Anything really) and I'll probably have enough stuff for 2 things a week for about 2 or 3 weeks (it really does depend). I'll most likely put these things up every Monday and Thursday, so look out for those! I'll also have a bonus post of 'what I got for Christmas' because those are fun and they aren't bragging, I'm just excited! And maybe a post of things I bought with Christmas money because everyone likes spending and receiving money, and maybe it's things you'll enjoy too!

On a slightly different note, in 2 days it's my boyfriends 15th birthday! (Yes, I'm the older one, but I look younger and I'm about 1 foot shorter...) and in 4 days it's CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!! Those two events are so close together it's unbelievable. It's always hard for me to spoil him but I'm going to try a bit harder with buying earlier next year so he gets double the amount of things this year, because I like to spoil him but don't ever have much money to spend (£20 a month is never good) but I do try!! I got him stuff that he asked for, it's hard to buy surprise stuff for him because he spends money quite frequently, and I'm quite difficult to buy things for, so we just have to give each-other lists.

On another note, picture quality in reviews and things where I have to take pictures myself should be improved. Why? I got a different phone. Basically, because of having so many phones in my house with different contracts, one phone is always up for upgrade, and my iPhone 4S broke! The power button doesn't work anymore!! So my dad remembered he had an iPhone 5 that wasn't really used because he got his free-ish upgrade and got an iPhone 5s and gave me the iPhone 5! (Oh how I love contracts) and I'm very happy! I did have to get a new number though because of SIM card changing would cost an extra £10 and we didn't really have the money for that because of Christmas stuff! That part was annoying but I'm very happy and the picture quality has improved. I don't use a proper camera because I use my iPad and phone to make posts and it would be too much hassle but the phone is decent!

I'm not sure what this post is but look out for more posts soon! BYEEEEE

Where I Buy My Books

Hey guys, I'm off sick today from school (and have been this entire week so far) so I have decided to make a little post on where I get my books.

As you already know, there are many places to purchase books (either physical books, audiobooks or e-books) but I personally only have 4 main places where I buy books. So let's get this show on the road!

1. Amazon

Everyone knows about amazon so not much explanation needed here but don't just buy directly from amazon. You may be able to find books cheaper in the 'New & Used' section! :-)

2. Waterstones

I think waterstones is a UK & Ireland based book shop only so sorry if you're not from the UK or Ireland. Waterstones does sell books at full price but do usually have some good deals going on like 'buy 1 get 1 half price' and deals along those lines. It's a nice shop too.

3. The Works

This shop is a bit muddled up, it can be hard to find books in there but it's good. You can get nice collections for really cheap and some books for £1.99 each! There are also always deals like '3 for £5'. It's lovely.

4. Any Charity Shop!

I love going into charity shops. Where I live, there are quite a lot and there's always something to buy and such great deals! You know that your money is going to a good cause too so it's even better!

And that's pretty much it. I'm sorry this isn't anything big or fancy but I wanted to make a post and feel utterly rubbish. I'm probably gonna sit on YouTube for a bit and then have a nap!

Bye guys!!!!

Long time no see guys! Sorry, I've been on a reading & blogging slump and I've had lots of tests to revise for! (So many tests!!!!!)

But anyway, this month I read 3 books (which is still terrible for me!).

1. Geek Girl by Holly Smale

2. Assassins Creed: Renaissance by Oliver Bowden

3. Diary of a Chav: Slinging the Bling by Grace Dent

It took me forever to get through Renaissance and I really don't know why...

Hopefully December will be better!!!

A little bit of help

This post probably isn't gonna mean much to some people, and most of you won't even care but this is a little message to those out in the big world that may be struggling with something.

I honestly wanna say that whether this post is gonna help you or not really does depend on your situation.

So many people are having a big problem in their life right now, and just want someone to be there for them, even if they don't say it, they probably want someone. If you are someone who is having a problem, don't be afraid to let people help you out, they care about you. And if you know your friend is having a problem, but refuses help, don't get too involved, tell them you are here for them no matter what, and let them know that you care and will do anything to help them out. They may let you help them in time.

For those who want help, and aren't sure who to turn to, you've got your friends and family, and they all love you and care for you, don't be scared to talk to them. Don't do anything drastic that you know for a fact that you'd regret some day. Life is a roller coaster, it's got its ups and downs, but that's just all part of it. There's a quote that I once saw, it said "life is like a bike, you've just gotta go forward and try to keep your balance" and there's another that says "when life kicks you, let it kick you foward". Those are brilliant quotes that can really help us in life. We've gotta pick ourselves back up, and carry on, standing tall and strong.

There are some ways people deal with things that we don't always agree with, but we have to let them do things for themselves, we can't treat people like babies. If the issue becomes a problem, then maybe you should help, but let the person talk to you in their own time, some people want a shoulder to cry on, and some people would rather cry on their own and pretend that everything is fine. Even though I don't agree with the second one, meaning I don't agree that it should be done, we need to allow people to deal with things in their own time, at their own pace. You can't force someone into doing something you don't want them to do.

I honestly don't know why I wrote this. I've been having a bad couple of days and thought this post would be relevant. If I'm not active for a while, I'm just trying to get my head straight. I need to think some things through, get some stuff sorted. Once that is all fixed, I can be back to posting vaguely regularly. I'm trying to think of a good time-table for posts, but I'm not sure how it'll work.

Bye guys

Beauty Review- Maybelline BabyLips

I'm trying something slightly different, and I'm honestly not sure if this is gonna be a thing but here I am to try it out!

Alright, so today I am reviewing the BabyLips Lip Balms by Maybelline.

In the UK, there are 6 in total (3 tinted, 3 not tinted).

The 3 tinted ones are called:

- Pink Punch

- Cherry Me

- Peach Kiss

The 3 non-tinted ones are called:

- Hydrate

- Intense Care

- Mint Fresh

So let's get the actual review started...

First up is Smell:

The tinted ones all smell how they are supposed to. Cherry Me smells of cherries, Peach Kiss smells of peaches and Pink Punch smells of a kind of fruity sort of thing, I can't quite put my finger on it but it smells so nice!

The non-tinted ones smell equally as nice. Mint Fresh obviously smells of mint, and Intense Care and Hydrate also smell nice, even though I can't put my finger on it. (I'm not fantastic at describing smells...)

Next up is Apperance:

Apperance of packaging is nice. It's colourful, simplistic and they all look good together.

Colour:

The 3 non tinted ones aren't coloured (which is why they aren't tinted ones) so I can't really go into detail about that but the 3 tinted ones colours are amazing. I did a little swatch (please ignore the drawing on top of my hand)

They are beautiful colours and Peach Kiss has a slightly shimmer to it.

They go in this order (left to right): Peach Kiss, Pink Punch, Cherry Me

Moisture:

They are labeled as an 8 hour moisturising balm, which is a pretty big statement to make!

I'd honestly say the moisture at the most lasts about 4 hours depending on what you are doing, and you do need to be quite generous with the amount you put on. One go over isn't gonna cut it!

They do moisturise your lips nicely though and I honestly think that the Intense Care one has made my lips feel better. In the cold, windy winter this can be quite helpful, but obviously if your lips are VERY bad then you may want to go with something more powerful like Vaseline or Carmex or something along those lines.

Overall:

Overall I really like these lip balms. They are all nice. I'd say my favourites are Intense Care and Pink Punch. I highly recommend them. You can get them from Superdrug, Boots or any sort of shop like that for £2.99 (I'm not too sure about America, sorry!!)

So, this was something quite different, I hope you all enjoyed it though..

Bye!

Review:
The plot for this book was so amazing. I never really read Horror books, but this one was just so hyped on goodreads and YouTube and other blogs that I needed to get it, so got it for my birthday. The plot, characters and entire book was written really well, I just occasionally felt that the chapters without Anna went on a bit too long, since Anna is a big part of it, you sort of expect the chapters without her in them to be quite short. I don't think the book was written with too much gore in it, I could still get vivid images of things in my head, but that is because I'm quite good with that sort of thing. You can get images in your head, but maybe not too graphic. This book is certainly not for young readers and I will have to pick up the second book soon. Another great thing was that the author, Kendare Blake actually connects with her readers on twitter, and she did tweet me which was lovely. I did really really like this book (I may even say I loved this book) but some chapters just felt too long. Still a 5 star book for me though!

Rating: 5/5 Stars

UK Storm 2013

This is a serious post to those all over the UK.
The storm that's been happening has been awful.
On Twitter, I've seen a lot of sarcastic comments about how bad it is and they've just got a picture of a blown over bin or a broken garden gnome, but it's so much worse.

People have died and a boy has gone missing (and feared dead). This isn't a joke.
I've honestly not had anything majorly bad happen in my area or to my family. Only that the bench that was made in memory of my deceased grandfather was broken and the fence by it was broken and it isn't safe for animals, and pets have been freaked out.

This is serious stuff, if you want to make your sarcastic comments, tell them to friends, don't post them all over the internet, think about how the families of those who have died feel, think about how the family of the missing boy feels. It's not funny, and death never is.

I just wanted to get this off of my chest.
To those in the UK like me, stay safe guys!

Currently reading- 17th October 2013

Hello everyone! I haven't done a currently reading in a long time! So here I am to do another one.
I'm currently reading Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake. I'm on page 276 and I'm loving it!
It is a horror book, and I always thought it was going to be really scary. It is creepy in some places and it's just so well written. I hope to read more of it today.
It's also Eminems 41st birthday today (just thought I'd point that out for any rap fans).

Bye!

Internet Obsessions

Hello world!
I've returned! I'm so glad that the internet is back in my house, I hate not having it.
I honestly think I probably rely on the internet too much. It's what I use to talk to my friends and family, buy things, find out about new books, talk about books to people around the world, do homework with and loads of other stuff.

I think this May just be a problem with our generation but you know what? It's okay to be obsessed with the internet. It's educating us, entertaining us and keeping us out of our parents way. There are so many benefits that some people don't see, it can get annoying.

Honestly,I don't think I social network as much as I used to. I used to have everything and always use it. I think the only social networking related things I use are: Twitter, Facebook, goodreads, Instagram, YouTube, vine, snapchat, and things related to blogging. Believe it or not that's been cut down.

If you want to cut down on how much internet you use, I'd honestly recommend just reading a book.

This post has so meaning, so here are images of internet cats...

The internet irritates me!

This isn't about the actual internet, but mainly internet providers and 3G!!
My internet is down, and I can't actually remember why, but I know my dad told me why.
Anyway, I have 3G on my iPad and my phone. The only issue is that 3G is terrible!! Where I live, it seems to be awful, and I don't even live in the country side, I live in an area where there is a town and a beach nearby. I never seem to get good 3G signal, which means doing homework online can be a serious issue, and I'm lucky that no homework needed to be typed up and sent via email or required the internet to use.

You're probably wondering how I'm writing this and posting it. We'll, I'm using my IPad and using my incredibly slow and awful 3G on the iPad to post this. It's hard for me to live without the internet, I need it for my social networking (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, goodreads, snapchat) and all that sort of stuff. And it means I'm bored! I can only read for a certain amount of time before my eyes get tired, and the iPad is just easier to use, and I like looking at stuff online. I also did want to do a bit more shopping, for a new cable for my iPhone/iPad and some more books (like vampire academy and other books that are first in a series).

My internet should be back by Tuesday, and when it comes back, I will be overjoyed.
Also, I have the day off of school on Thursday due to a teachers strike, so my year (year 10) and the year below me (year 9) get a day off, so I guess you could expect some posts and reviews on that day!

I look foward to posting again soon. I guess this was just a post to let you guys know why I'm not posting too much. Apart from the obvious reasons which is school, homework and all that delightful stuff!

Book Wrap Up- September 2013

I know this post is slightly early, but due to a migraine and stuff, I doubt I'll be reading anymore books this month (reading, but not completing).
So this month I read 4 books. Not brilliant, but I have been very busy with birthdays and school and stuff.
Let's get on with the books:

1. Pretties by Scott Westerfeld

2. Miracle at the Museum of Broken Hearts by Talli Roland

3. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll

4. Specials by Scott Westerfeld

So, this month had some good books, and some not so good books. I'm looking forward to October and looking forward to reading more books and doing more reviews. I got quite a few books for my birthday and I have bought quite a lot too, so maybe a book haul is in order, so look out for that!

Oh, and I'm currently reading Extras by Scott Westerfeld. Once I'm done with Extras, that'll be the whole Uglies series completed, so a review of that should be up within a couple of weeks too.

Well guys, see you soon. BYEEEEEE!!!!!
